Who we are
We are transition enablers — a hybrid organization bridging sectors. We partner with individuals and collectives in our network to increase our impact.
Transition Collective is co-founded by Sune Knudsen and Christian Bason. We first joined forces at MindLab, the Danish Government’s innovation lab, before reuniting to co-lead the Danish Design Center, a nonprofit foundation, for nearly a decade.
Together, we have led organizations, strategies and missions in complex environments across multiple sectors. We have worked in business, in government, in academia, in nonprofits and in international organizations such as the EU and UN. Together, we activate everything we’ve learnt to help others achieve the collective transitions they dream of.
Sune Knudsen is Co-founder of Transition Collective. From 2015 to 2024 he was COO of the Danish Design Center, a government-backed non-profit foundation. He previously held leadership and other positions at Implement Consulting Group, The Danish Business Authority, The Danish Ministry of Employment, MindLab, and the Danish Armed Forces. Sune is the co-author of several books (in Danish), including "The Organization Was Set Free and the Leadership had to be Rediscovered" (2023) and “Put the Citizen in the Center” (2009). Sune is M.Sc. (Political Science) from Copenhagen University. Sune lives with his family in Virum north of Copenhagen.

Christian Bason Ph.D., is Co-founder of Transition Collective, Adjunct Professor with University of Technology Sydney and Leader in Residence at Copenhagen Business School. From 2014 to 2023 he was CEO of the Danish Design Center. Previously, he was Director of MindLab, the Danish government’s innovation team, and Business Manager with Ramboll, a global advisory group. Christian is the author and co-author of nine books, including "Expand: Stretching the Future by Design" (2022), "Leading Public Sector Innovation: Co-creating for a Better Society" (2018) and (in Danish) "The Organization Was Set Free and the Leadership had to be Rediscovered" (2023). Christian is M.Sc. (Political Science) from Aarhus University and Ph.D. from Copenhagen Business School. Christian lives with his family in Sorgenfri, north of Copenhagen — not far from Virum.
